Finnish Design Shop: 20 years of shared growth and development

Finnish Design Shop is a global online store focused on Nordic design and interior décor. Boxon has been the company’s main packaging partner since 2006. The shared journey of Finnish Design Shop and Boxon is founded on proactive account management, a solution-oriented approach, trust, and transparency.

Fast-paced growth calls for a proactive packaging partner

In the early days of Finnish Design Shop, packaging needs were straightforward: the new company needed tape and cardboard boxes. During the first years, order volumes grew by 40% annually, and the business has continued to see rapid changes since. The online store’s product range has also expanded along the way.

“Today the selection includes everything from pens and chopsticks to three-meter marble tables,” says Finnish Design Shop’s Operations Director Kalle Karvanen. “We have also had customized packaging solutions designed specifically for us by Boxon.”

In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020, the online store experienced explosive growth and an unprecedented demand for packaging materials.

“We trust that Boxon can keep their promises and find solutions for any challenges that might arise. There hasn’t been a single case where they haven’t delivered,” Karvanen says.

From material supplier to long-term strategic partner and source of support in different development stages

“Our company culture encourages experimenting and finding new ways of doing things, so new packaging-related needs can arise at a fast pace,” Karvanen explains.

“A long-term partner like Boxon stays by our side when we need to look at costs more closely, and development efforts lead to reducing packaging materials,” he continues.

Instead of pursuing quick wins, the focus is on finding solutions that genuinely benefit both companies on a larger scale. Currently, Finnish Design Shop is working together with Boxon to explore, among other things, ways to reduce plastic in packaging materials.

Communication between Boxon and Finnish Design Shop takes place weekly, sometimes even daily. Boxon’s Account Manager Peter Lindroos has served as the client’s contact person from the very beginning, enabling him to gain deeper insight into the customer’s operations and needs. As Karvanen puts it:
