Boxon has been awarded the Packnews Special Prize (Editor’s Award) at the Packnorth Award for its rPET Big Bag, an industrial packaging solution combining recycled material, high performance and approval for direct food contact.
The rPET Big Bag is made from 100% recycled PET bottles and has been developed to help companies reduce the upstream CO₂ environmental impact of their packaging without compromising on safety, quality or performance. According to supplier data, the rPET bag has up to 50 percent lower carbon footprint than comparable bags made from virgin polypropylene.
”We are very proud to receive this award. With the rPET Big Bag, we wanted to show that using more recycled material does not have to mean compromising on performance. It is a solution that combines the circularity principle of upstream material circulation with the high demands our customers have on safety, durability and functionality,” says Andrea Stoltz, Category Manager at Boxon.
In addition to its recycled content, the rPET Big Bag offers improved UV resistance, abrasion resistance and dimensional stability during transport and handling. The material withstands temperatures ranging from -20°C to +140°C and is suitable for food, chemicals and other demanding industrial applications.
The improved print quality also enables clearer labelling and better traceability – an important advantage in regulated supply chains.
Approved for direct food contact, the rPET Big Bag opens opportunities to use recycled material in applications where safety and material performance are particularly important. Its durable profile supports internal customer reuse, while its composition allows for recycling in appropriate plastic streams, promoting a smart use of recycled resources.
The jury’s motivation:
“A strong example of how circular material solutions can work even in demanding industrial applications. By controlling the origin of the raw material, recycled polymers are combined with high functionality, food safety and full traceability. The solution demonstrates that sustainability can be scaled up without compromising on performance, while contributing to an impressive 50 percent reduction in carbon footprint.”
