With new, customized packaging solutions, Norsk Bildelesenter was able to cut their packing time in half – while completely eliminating the use of tape.
Norsk Bildelesenter (Bildeler.no) was founded in 1990 and has been importing and selling car parts for over 35 years. The company focuses on vehicles older than five years and currently covers over 90% of the wear-and-service part needs in the Norwegian aftermarket – offering parts for 39 car brands. Their goal is to provide parts equivalent to original quality at some of the market’s most competitive prices.
Discussions between Boxon and Norsk Bildelesenter began in 2022 with a clear challenge: to develop packaging solutions better suited to their wide product range – in terms of shape, size, and handling.
The goals were:
• To reduce the amount of air in each shipment
• To streamline the packing process
• To reduce injuries among staff caused by taping and folding
At the start of the project, the customer used 12 different standard boxes, large amounts of plastic-based filling material – and nearly 2,000 rolls of tape per year.
The collaboration has been easy, and we’ve managed to juggle many tasks at once. Together, we focused on the solutions that delivered the best overall results. Afterwards, the follow-up was also good, and we were asked if we wanted any changes.
Boxon takes it very seriously if something falls outside the norm. Innovative thinking combined with old-fashioned customer service,” says Rune Aas from Norsk Bildelesenter.
Together, we developed a new packaging portfolio with five customized boxes featuring adjustable heights.
This resulted in:
One of the biggest improvements came with a new, specially designed box for diagnostic tools. The tailored construction reduced the volume by 60% compared to the previous solution, leading to both lower material use and the complete removal of bubble wrap.
To further enhance customer value, a QR code was integrated into the box, linking directly to a digital user manual for the tool.
Norsk Bildelesenter has been a very exciting customer to work with, as they’ve challenged us to find effective solutions that help them in their day-to-day operations. They previously used almost exclusively standard boxes, and together we’ve developed new and improved alternatives.
They didn’t focus only on price but wanted solutions that offered added value beyond just monetary savings.
We’ve now worked together for two years and look forward to continuing our collaboration and development with them,” says Frank Vee, Account Manager at Boxon.
